Brain Storming
What I know about mass militaries in the modern day is that the US has the largest military and far exceeds the second biggest army. We spend billions of dollars each year on our military. Yet we have not fought in a full-blown major war for territory in years. Only insurgency type wars like the War on Terror.
Although China and Russian can be seen as threats, they are an ocean away. The only way one of them could really invade us would be if Russia tried to invade Alaska through Siberia and they do not have the infrastructure for that.
I am interested in this topic, because I am a believer in isolationism for the United States. It seems like we are the police force for the world. The United States has the largest military budget which takes money away from other things we could use to help the United States. Our deficit spending is out of control. I believe this money should go to other things like healthcare, education, transportation and welfare.
Groups who should be involved in this debate should be the taxpayer politicians and the people who run the military industrial complex. The interested parties would be against any budget cuts because they make so much money off military contracts.
It would be interesting to find out about the people and companies who profit from the military industrial complex and our massive military budget. Furthermore, the political ties to politicians these individuals and corporations have. How much money is spent that can be saved on military things that are scams?
I could research this topic for the whole semester as I am very interested to see why we still have this high military budget and why the people in charge keep it high even though we aren't really threatened by anyone.
